IVM - Success at IVF Canada/LIFE Program

IVF Canada/LIFE Program is excited to announce the birth of the first 3 babies from our IVM Program!!

The 2 boys and 1 girl born through our program to date are beautiful, healthy children, and we have several more babies on their way!

In vitro maturation (IVM) is a procedure where immature eggs are removed from the ovaries prior to being ready to be fertilized. The immature eggs are then placed in special media in the laboratory to promote their final maturation, and then intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) is used to fertilize the IVM eggs. The resulting embryos are used for transfer to the uterus in a fresh state and/or frozen for future attempts at pregnancy.

IVF Canada/LIFE Program is pleased to be able to offer this treatment to our patients with polycystic ovaries (PCO/PCOS), and those women who have experienced ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in response to fertility drug treatments in the past.

IVM requires either no drug treatment or only very mild ovarian stimulation with fertility drugs, and, thus reduces/eliminates the risk of OHSS and greatly reduces the financial cost of fertility treatment.
